Vineyards That Tell A Story

Windrow Estate is a rolling 32 acre property, 21+ of which are under vine cultivation. Windrow is part of the first commercial vineyard planted in the Walla Walla Valley AVA. Situated on a bench created thousands of years ago where Lower Dry Creek empties into the southern Walla Walla Valley. Windrow has a rare combination of heat during the day followed by a cool breeze flowing out of the Blue Mountains in the evenings.

This diurnal shift allows us to grow our grapes until later in the season, increasing maturity while retaining enough acidity to maintain balance and structure. Ellisford Silt Loam is prevalent in this part of the Walla Walla Valley AVA. Windrow Vineyard varies from very deep deposits of windblown loess to shallow layers over gravelly cobble.

Black currant, cherry pit, blueberry and pepper are the typical characteristics of our terroir. During Windrow's long history, vineyard blocks have been added bringing the total to 14. Cabernet grapes dominate here. Planted on the Plateau, Hill, and Old Block as far back as the Early 1980’s. With some of the oldest Merlot vines transplanted in the late 1970's. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, and most recently, Charbono and Petite Sirah make up the rest of the vineyard.
